Event: Regulating Medical Performance: An ESRC and GMC collaborative research programme conference
Date: February 23, 2010 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Location: The Royal College of Physicians London NW1 4LE

As part of the GMC’s wider research programme which seeks to inform its policy development, they co-funded a pioneering set of 11 complementary research projects with the PSP, in a first attempt to throw some light on some of the key contested issues in the field of medical regulation. These small scale exploratory studies have used a variety of interview and observation techniques to tease out beliefs and experience in areas such as equality, diversity and fitness to practise, individual experience and performance, and organisational regulation and performance.
As part of a wider programme of dissemination the GMC are hosting an open roundtable style event to explain some context behind the programme, showcase the projects themselves and enable a wide impact of the findings.
The event is being held on the 23 February 2010 from 15:00 – 17:00 at the Royal College of Physicians in London and will include opportunities to view posters from all of the projects and hear speakers from within the programme and representatives from the GMC. This event will be of relevance to policy makers, research commissioners, medical educationalists and the wider community who share an interest in medical regulatory impact and evidence-based policy development.
